Hillsborough County ARES/RACES is proud to sponsor the introductory Amateur Radio "Technician Class" License Course in a traditional classroom setting. Please invite your friends to come join the several hundred people who have taken these courses and earned or upgraded an Amateur Radio license during the last few years.

This course will be held over two Saturdays, the 17th and 31st of May, 2014.
Testing will occur at the end of the second class.

  • Why Should I Get Licensed?

    Before you can get on the air, you need to be licensed and know the rules to operate legally. US licenses are good for 10 years before renewal and anyone may hold one except a representative of a foreign government.
  • What do I bring ?

    You need to bring
    - Government Issued Photo ID
    - FCC Issued FRN number ( get it here )
    - Calculator
    - A couple pencils and a pens for taking notes
    - Lunch, Morning Snack & Afternoon Snack and a Drink or two
  • Can I Study Before The Class ?

    SURE !
    The FCC gives us the entire question pool
    If you are good at learning from flashcards get a copy of the question pool from here.
    There are tons of free resources on the internet including these wonderful videos.
  • How much will a radio cost me ?

    There has never been a better time to be a HAM. New handheld radios range from $40 to over $500. Used radios are also very plentiful through your local club, hamfests, and ebay. There are always plenty of experienced HAMS willing to take you under their wing and guide you along the way. Don't let equipment costs deter you there are many ways to dive in to amature radio on a tight budget.
